EMSNOW speaks with David Schild, Executive Director, Printed Circuit Board Association of America (PCBAA), to get details on a recently released documentary co-produced by PCBAA and the Alliance for American Manufacturing. “The New Frontier: Inside the Comeback Factories Securing America’s Tech Future” is intended to educate legislative policy makers about the criticality of the PCB industry. The 20-minute film is designed to explain and humanize this often-overlooked sector of the electronics ecosystem. Most of the policy makers, David explains, are not EEs and do not understand circuits. And yet without government subsidies, U.S. companies are not able to compete. “Our PCB industry did not lose out to foreign companies,” he says, “but to foreign governments that have been subsidizing their country’s industry for many years.”
David also highlights new tools PCBAA has developed to help U.S. citizens contact their policy makers to encourage them to vote for HR 3597, the PCBs Act, and its Senate companion bill. The association’s annual meeting is coming up June 16-18 in Washington DC with lots of opportunities for members to make their voices heard.
