IPC and PCBAA Issues Letter Requesting Congress Restore DoD Funding for Advanced Packaging and PCBs

DoD has for years included microelectronics as a top technology enabler. Likewise, they have pitched the Defense Production Act as one of the key sources of funding. Therefore it is puzzling as to why the line item in the DPA budget was zero for Advanced Packaging and Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) in the FY25 budget request.
IPC and PCBAA have sent a letter to relevant Members of the House and Senate signed by 49 industry executives asking for this funding to be restored.
The DoD must match funding to its priorities as outlined in the National Defense Industrial Strategy, which includes the need to secure U.S. supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign sources. Foreign-made #microelectronics are a major and growing vulnerability at the same time the U.S. is struggling to manufacture PCBs in sufficient numbers to meet the growing demand. The PCB industry needs this support to help reverse a negative 30 year downward trend in domestic manufacturing.
