The COVID pandemic has caused supply chain disruptions and component shortages which are dramatically increasing supply chain pressure and causing the open market to offer low-quality components. This situation has led to an increased risk of counterfeit parts, as well as other factors that can result in defective components. This risk is conventionally mitigated by performing sample lab tests on components but sampling only a fraction of the components can carry many risks. Lab testing does not address out-of-date, mixed lots, badly handled, tampered with, or defective components which may be randomly scattered within a package.
