ECIA Publishes New RF Connector Selection Guide

Atlanta– ECIA announces its standards committee CE-2.2 RF Connectors and Rigid Coax Connectors has released EIA-979 RF Transmission Line and Connector Selection Guide. This 176-page document contains over 100 figures and tables to provide guidance in the selection, use and replacement of connectors and components in the RF signal path.

Many electrical and electronic components and designs are agnostic when it comes to selecting the wire or connector to be used. This is not true of RF designs. As frequencies increase, many electrical and mechanical parameters come into play making the selection of parts more difficult and the resulting end product much more of a system than just a series of parts. The intent is to facilitate the work of design engineers of RF systems, especially military/aerospace products.

The guide expands upon MIL-HDBK-216 R.F. Transmission Lines and Fittings, which was initially published in 1962 and ceased updating in 1982. ECIA’s EIA-979 incorporates more recent technologies and procedures which have emerged since MIL-HDBK-216 was cancelled without replacement.

“The committee of highly experienced industry participants worked very diligently to produce this richly illustrated and well-researched guide,” commented Ed Mikoski Jr, ECIA’s Vice President of Standards and Technology. “With the explosion of applications from IoT and Industry 4.0, and 5G, RF design has become an extremely critical field.  Both experienced engineers and new engineers just beginning their RF careers should find this quite handy.”

About EIA Standards

ECIA, through its technical standards committees, provides a unique forum for the discussion of technical issues and development of industry standards, guides, and other documents that drive the manufacture, application and use of electronic component products and systems on a global basis. ECIA is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and these industry voluntary standards carry the “EIA Standards” trademark.

About ECIA

The Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA) is made up of the leading electronic component manufacturers, their manufacturer representatives and authorized distributors. ECIA members share a common goal of promoting and improving the business environment for the authorized sale of electronic components. Comprised of a broad array of leaders and professionals representing all phases of the electronics components supply chain, ECIA is where business optimization, product authentication and industry advocacy come together. ECIA members develop industry guidelines and technical standards, as well as generate critical business intelligence. For more information, visit www.ecianow.org or call 678-393-9990.
