A new electrical power distribution system that replaces hydraulic valves, pumps, actuators, hoses and their attendant maintenance issues has been introduced by Diversified Technologies, Inc. (DTI) of Bedford, MA, USA.
The PowerMod™ Subsea MVDC Power Distribution System allows power to be transmitted on the ocean floor at 1 to 20 kV DC, and converts to 300 V for use at each node. Replacing problematic hydraulic systems, this power distribution system allows the transmission of megawatts at medium voltages over thousands of kilometers, without large cables, and is ideal for use with motors, sensors, and specialized electronics devices at the ocean floor.
Consisting of pressurized nodes that measure 18” dia. and can operate at depths down to 3,500 meters, the PowerMod™ Subsea MVDC Power Distribution System is designed for extreme longevity and resilience with a 90% probability of opera-tion for 25 years. Permitting the use of virtually any power source, it can handle multiple charging stations located anywhere along a cable.
The PowerMod™ Subsea MVDC Power Distribution System is priced from (USD) $300,000. per node, depending upon configuration.
