Hon Hai of Taiwan Aims to Rank Among World's Top 20 Enterprises

Nov 02, 2012

Taiwan's Hon Hai Group, the world's largest EMS (electronic manufacturing service) provider, has aimed to be one of the world's top-20 business groups, and is pretty confident of its cooperation with Sharp Corporation, the world-caliber Japanese home appliance maker, according to Z.W. Dai, vice president of Hon Hai Group.

Beginning with less than 1,000 workers some 20-plus years ago, Hon Hai now has about 1.3 million employees globally.

Hon Hai's annual revenues this year will likely reach about NT$3.5 trillion (US$116.66 billion), leading all Taiwanese enterprises, and was ranked No.43 in the world, according to Fortune Magazine, an America-based global business magazine published by Time Inc.

However, Dai admitted that it's not easy to manage such an enormous group with 1.3 million employees worldwide, saddled with concerns about construction security, and especially improving workers' welfare and safety.

The maker has caused a buzz in media recently with its highly promoted 60-inch liquid crystal display (LCD) TV that was newly launched in Taiwan, which has super-high resolution and adopts panels from SDP (Sakai Display Products) of Sharp of Japan.

According to Dai, the new TV will revolutionize high definition TV and will be launched in Taiwan and China first, with the firm also planning an integrated production line for large-sized LCD TVs in Taiwan.
