Pi Innovo introduces versatile engine control OpenECU

Jun 11, 2012

Pi Innovo is pleased to announce the availability of the OpenECU M470 electronic control unit capable of supporting up to 8 cylinder engine management on applications ranging from heavy duty diesel to high performance motorsport.

The M470 hardware design is based on the highly successful NIRA i7 series of ECUs from Nira Control AB. Pi Innovo and Nira Control have collaborated to port the OpenECU Platform Software to the NIRA i7 series. The M470 has a total of 196 connector pins offering conditioned inputs and outputs for a very wide range of sensor and actuator types; and is supplied in an engine mounting, extremely rugged, sealed metal housing with IP67 environmental protection.

"It was great to discover that the Pi Innovo OpenECU philosophy so closely matched Nira's flexible approach to product design and customer engagement", said Tomas Olofsson, CTO & Partner at Nira Control, "Customers can now source software for our production ECUs based on the OpenECU range of proven control strategies and diagnostic infrastructure utilities".

"The M470 (NIRA i7) adds support in the OpenECU module range for modern gasoline and common-rail diesel engine management requiring advanced fuel injection strategies with multiple injections per stroke", said Andrew Kirk, CEO (UK) at Pi Innovo, "The broad application of this high feature module is further enhanced with support for all sensors and actuators required to comply with Euro V and Tier 4 emission regulations."
OpenECU is a wide range of adaptable, field-ready products and intellectual property designed to accelerate electronics system development. The philosophy behind OpenECU is the creation of modular, reusable technology that is implemented to volume production standards and is fully "open" to custom configuration, adaption and further development. The OpenECU family includes; hardware modules, prototyping accessories, electronic circuit libraries, platform software, model-based control strategies and application software.
