SMT Corp. announces building expansion

Sep 30, 2009

Company officials at Surface Mount Technology Corporation (SMT Corp.) an electronic product development and contract manufacturer announced the renovation and expansion of its current facility located at 5660 Technology Circle, near the airport in Appleton, WI.

The renovation and expansion is expected to be completed in two phases over the next two years. The first phase is the renovation of 6,000 square feet for SMT Engineering LLC, the design and product development group of SMT Corp., is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2010. The renovation is being driven by a 36% growth in revenue this year and will provide a larger segregated area for the entire product development group. Company officials expect the renovation to accommodate their growth for the next several years.

The second phase is the addition of 25,000 square feet of manufacturing space onto the current facility. Ground breaking is expected to start in the first quarter of 2010 and to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2010. The additional square footage is required to integrate the company's higher level assembly (HLA) operations into its manufacturing facility.

Company officials said the renovation and expansion will provide SMT Corp. a competitive advantage as the overall economy starts to rebound giving it the opportunity to continue to meet and exceed our customer's expectations and requirements.
