Speakers from the Sorin Group and Stanford-India Biodesign Program Highlight an Agenda at iNEMI's Medical Electronics Workshop

Apr 21, 2011

Meeting to be held in Santa Clara, California - May 4-5 2011

Experts from biomedical research organizations, government agencies, medical device manufacturers and the medical electronics supply chain will discuss technical and regulatory challenges facing the implantable, portable and imaging segments of the medical electronics industry at the International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative's (iNEMI's) Medical Electronics Workshop, May 4-5, in Santa Clara, Calif. The objective of this two-day event is to identify the technology challenges and standardization gaps that can best be solved by collaborative efforts within the medical electronics industry.

"We are extremely pleased with the speaker line-up for this event," said Bill Bader, CEO of iNEMI.  "International experts from Europe, North America and Asia will provide invaluable insights for the workshop participants to consider as they shape the collaborative agenda for future iNEMI efforts in medical electronics."

Alain Ripart, Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of the Sorin Group, will talk about technology challenges for active cardiac implantable devices. Ripart scouts for new technologies and new applications for arrhythmia diagnosis management and therapy with implantable devices. He is also responsible for developing cooperative research with academic and private partners.

Dinner speaker Rajiv Doshi, MD, will talk about the biodesign process, from identifying needs to creating commercial products. Doshi is the U.S. Executive Director of the Stanford-India Biodesign Program. He is also founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Ventus Medical, a venture capital-backed medical device company in Belmont, Calif. He has taught medical device design courses at Stanford since 2000, and serves on the Medical Advisory Board of Lunar Design. In addition to getting his MD from Stanford, he also holds an MSE in biomechanical engineering.
