SMTA Hutchins Grant applications now being accepted
Feb 10, 2005
The SMTA Hutchins Educational Grant was established in memory of past SMTA president and industry colleague Dr. Charles Hutchins. The $5000 grant is awarded annually to a graduate-level student pursuing a degree and working on thesis research in electronic assembly, electronics packaging, or a related field. To be considered for this award students must download, fill out, and submit the entry form that is available in the Hutchins Grant section on smta.org. Along with the entry form, students are required to submit current academic transcripts, an advisor's letter of recommendation, a resume, and a one-page thesis research abstract. The grant is presented annually at the SMTA International Conference and is intended for the purchase of technical books and research materials, for participation in conferences related to electronics assembly and packaging, and for living expenses if necessary. The 2004 recipient was Brian McAdams from Lehigh University (Bethlehem, PA) for his project entitled "Sub-critical Initiation of Delaminations at the Underfill /Passivation Interface in Flip-chip Assemblies".
