Rogers Corp. and Hansung Elcomtec announce alliance
Jan 18, 2005
To address the increasing demand for DFLX(TM) electroluminescent (EL) lamps, Rogers Corporation (NYSE:ROG) and Hansung Elcomtec (Hansung) announced that the two companies have formed an alliance in which Rogers' trailblazing DFLX technology will also be produced at Hansung's worldclass manufacturing facility. Rogers has exclusive worldwide patent rights covering flexible lamp technology in mobile phones and uses it in its DFLX products. Hansung's manufacturing facility is located in South Korea. Mike Bessette, vice president of the Rogers Durel Division in Chandler, AZ, states, "The president of Hansung Elcomtec, Ho - Seok Ko, and I were determined to find a way to work together to support customer demands for increased production of Rogers' very thin and flexible, patented EL keypad lamp. Mutual respect for each company's capabilities led to the development of a contract manufacturing partnership. As a result, we can use the combined strengths of both companies to provide enhanced products for customers and allow for the capacity needed for the anticipated explosive growth in the keypad backlighting market. Customers will continue to receive quality DFLX products, but in greater quantities." Under the terms of the alliance, all flexible lamps manufactured and sold into South Korea will be manufactured exclusively by Hansung. DFLX lamps manufactured by both Rogers and Hansung will be distributed through Rogers' worldwide sales and marketing channels. Hansung Elcomtec is headquartered in Kyunggi-Do, South Korea. Its product lines include electroluminescent lamps, compact camera modules and back light units for mobile phones. It is currently certified to Single PPM, ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:1996 for quality and environmental management systems.
