Compal Communications achieves record handset shipments in 2004

Compal Communications hit record shipments of 8.6 million mobile phones last year, up significantly from 3.7 million units in 2003, according to the company. The maker shipped 7.1 million phones in the second half of 2004, a huge jump from 1.5 million in the first half, said the company. Compal projects its shipments will reach 3-4 million units in the first quarter of 2005, rising sharply from 660,000 units during the same period last year. Strong handset shipments also helped the maker generate revenues of NT$14.55 billion in 2004, up 10% on-year, according to the company.
