Game console shipments from Taiwan to grow 90% on-year

Taiwan is expected to ship 16.7 million game consoles this year, up 90% from last year, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times, citing statistics from the Taiwan-based Industrial Technology Information Service (ITIS).Asustek Computer and Foxconn Electronics (the trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) will ship 11.27 million Sony PS2s this year, meeting about 55% of the vendor’s full-year demand, up from 40% last year, according to ITIS. Foxconn will handle about 60% of the orders and Asustek 40%.Foxconn affiliate Q-Run will ship 3.63 million Nintendo Game Cube consoles this year, according to ITIS. Last year, it fulfilled about one-third of the vendor’s assembly orders.Wistron is expected to ship 1.8 million Xboxes for Microsoft this year, up from 376,000 units in the fourth quarter of last year alone.ITIS projects game console outsourcing will generate US$2.669 billion in revenues for Taiwanese companies this year, up 58.9% from last year.Source: DigiTimes
