BI Technologies develops linear sensor for Joint Strike Fighter
Aug 17, 2004
TT electronics BI Technologies Electronic Components Division has developed a linear position sensor to be used in the innovative braking system of the Joint Strike Fighter. The new design, based on BI's Model 400 Series, is a precisionpotentiometer/position sensor for the rudder pedal assembly adjuster of the JSF F35. BI Technologies' sensor provides redundant position outputs and is lower in weight than the non-contact sensors that it replaces. "With upfront engineering, extensive testing, and a LRIP (low volume product) timeline of 4-5 years, the 400 Series sensors are ideal for applications requiring a rugged and reliable performance," said Barbara Wiesinger, Director of Product Development, Sensors & Potentiometers for BI Technologies. "The ROI comes in higher ASPs and the projected manufacturing cycle is 13 years with an expected spares life of another 10-15 years." BI Technologies offers linear and rotary position sensors in a wide range of standard and custom resistance values from 10ohm to 1M. Standard resistance tolerance is 10%, with a minimum practical resistance tolerance of 1%. The dielectric strength is 1,000V rms with the minimum insulation resistance of 1,000 megaohms. Typical pricing for the 400 Series sensor starts at $360 each in quantities of 25 pieces. Lead times vary based on custom specifications and start at 12 weeks.
