SMTA LA/Orange County to focus on lead-free
Aug 17, 2004
An Introduction into the Materials Engineering Aspects of Lead-free Solder Electronic Interconnections will be presented by Dr. Paul T. Vianco from Sandia National Laboratories on October 21. This program, sponsored by the SMTA LA / Orange County Chapter, will be held at Skyworks Solutions, Inc. in Irvine, CA. This course examines the materials engineering issues that underlie the use of lead-free solders for electronic interconnections. The discussion will address the role of solder, flux, substrate material / surface finish, and process profile on solderability and potential defects. Although the course will concentrate on organic laminate technology, the discussion will also touch upon the use of lead-free solders on ceramic substrate used in hybrid microcircuit (HMC) assemblies. Course material addresses both consumer and high-reliability (military and space) electronics applications. Visit the Chapter Tutorials page of the Education & Events section on www.smta.org for full details and secure registration.
