Dispensing in 2 or 3 dimensions
Feb 07, 2003
The automatic dispensing system CDS from ESSEMTEC can dispense dots, lines and curves in 2 or 3 dimensions. As a standalone machine it is used for midsize production, but it can also be integrated as a module into complete production lines. Their application range is very large, glue dot dispensing for the PCB assembly can be done as well as sealing applications with complicated forms. The graphical Windows 2000 based software is easy to operate and allows the fast programming using CAD data, files from pick and place machines and also the simple teach-in with the built-in camera. The dispensing machines can be equipped with 1 or 2 dispensing heads which allows applications with two totally different fluids on one machine, such as dam&fill or the production of PCB prototypes with solder paste and glue. The CDS dispensing system features a unique viscosity recalibration system. Various influences can change the behavior of a fluid during the production, such as temperature, humidity but also the fill level within the cartridge. The CDS automatically measures the diameter of the dot dispensed and corrects the dispensing parameters which leads to reproducible results day-in and day-out!To avoid damages on the substrate the surface is scanned by the integrated laser sensor prior to dispensing. The 3-dimensional image of the surface is stored and the dispensing machine can control the distance between the needle and the substrate exactly without touching it. This standard feature also allows to dispense dots of different size with it's optimum needle distance which would be impossible with a mechanical distance holder!Source: PCBnewsline
