Headline News,   

Toto Chemical (Raw material supplier for encapsulation resin) 
Will focus the material business on the high purity products used to semiconductor packaging.

Shizuoka University (Japan)
Will develop the next generation thin flat display devices using nano-technologies as the government project COE (Center of Excellence).

Toray (Major chemical company in Japan)
Will increase the manufacturing capacity of thick PET films in Asia 60% to 11 thousand tons per year by the end of 2006. Toray expects 20% annual growth of the flat panel applications.

Hitachi Cable (Major cable company in Japan)
Will provide the manufacturing technologies of mold type micro BGA to PTI (Power Tech Technology) in Taiwan. PTI will start the supply of the material to Hitachi in September.

Hitachi (Major electronics company in Japan)
Will eliminate a kind of lead-free solder alloy that includes antimony. Antimony has more capabilities to cause cancers than lead solder.

Sumitomo Chemical (Major chemical company in Japan)
Will increase the manufacturing capacity of high purity aluminum oxide 50% to 1500 tons per year for the increasing demands of LED substrates.

Dowa Mining (Major non-iron metal supplier in Japan)
Will increase the manufacturing capacity of silver powder 150% to 50 tons per month to cover the booming demands of the PDP devices.

Elner (Major PWB manufacturer in Japan)
Has been expanding the business of multi-layer boards for automobile applications instead of computer games.

Hamada Technos (Packaging material supplier in Japan)
Developed a new thin & small package with a lead frame for the small volume orders.

CMK (The largest PWB manufacturer in Japan)
Is expecting 116 billion Yen revenue with 5.5 billion Yen net income in the current fiscal year.

Alps Electric (Major component supplier in Japan)
Has developed a new termination device instead of the traditional connectors. The new device can reduce the space to one third by small spirals formed on thin films. 

MEC (Chemical supplier for PWB manufacturing process in Japan)
Has started the operation of the second manufacturing plant in China.

Nittobo (Glass fiber supplier in Japan)
Will increase the price of the glass fibers for printed circuit boards again 10 to 15% from August 10.

TDK (Major component supplier in Japan)
Will found a joint venture in the Philippines with Fujitsu for the head assembling of disc drives.
