AVX develops BME system
Mar 17, 2004
AVX Corporation has announced it has recently developed a unique base metal electrode (BME) system featuring a soft termination layer for its multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). BME technology with soft terminations improves temperature cycling performance of MLCCs and reduces failures associated with mechanical flexure, making the new devices ideal for use in harsh automotive applications, especially within the engine compartment. The soft termination material is positioned between the nickel/tin (Ni/Sn) plated overcoat and the copper (Cu) contact material, giving the capacitors excellent stability under stresses of changing temperature. The devices are available in case sizes from 1812 down to 0603"The addition of the soft termination increases the ability to withstand board flexure by 2.5x over the standard termination," explained Mark Obuszewski, AVX Senior Marketing Manager. "The combination of AVX’s soft termination and its nickel based BME system help to prevent circuit board flex failures without compromising the electrical integrity of the component." With case sizes ranging from 0603 to 1812, pricing for AVX’s MLCCs varies greatly. Samples are readily available with lead times from 8 to 10 weeks. For more information on AVX’s multilayer ceramic capacitors, contact AVX Sales & Marketing, at 801 17th Avenue South, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29578; by calling 843-946-0414, by fax at 843-626-5186 or on the Web at www.avxcorp.com.Source: PCBnewsline
