Winland adds new line

Mar 11, 2004

Winland Electronics, Inc. (Amex: WEX) a product realization company and a leader in Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS), announced that it has added a new assembly line for surface mount technology products. Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is the most widely used technology for circuit board assembly today. SMT facilitates the manufacture of extremely small, state of the art components in a highly accurate fashion required in many advanced electronic package designs. The new line is expected to enhance the Company's capability to manufacture high complexity electronic assemblies. The new production equipment supports long term goals of being technology capable to current and future clients, plus supporting strategic initiatives that are key to the Company's future growth. Terry Treanor, Winland's Vice President of Manufacturing, commented, "Our capital equipment acquisitions expand our core manufacturing competencies and adds capacity. The new line enhances our current technologies by enabling us to place extremely fine pitch ball grid array components down to .5 millimeters and the smallest chip components available to the market, which are 0201 (.020X.010). We are also incorporating the latest in vision and x-ray inspection technology to assure that our processes remain subject to strict and effective control. The additional capacity created by the new line increases our ability to offer greater flexibility to meet customer production schedule changes." Mr. Treanor continued, "The Winland Electronics staff has been actively engaged in strategic and competitive planning. The acquisition of this equipment provides strong evidence that senior management and the board of directors are dedicated to the growth of the company, and maintaining Winland's competitive edge and highest degree of technology capability possible. Accordingly, we have committed to this important technological addition as a part of our budgeted capital expenditures for 2004." Source: PCBnewsline
