Taiwan optical display production to reach $14.71B in '04

According to Analyst S. Y. Wang of Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA), the production value of Taiwan's optical displays is forecasted to reach NT$500 billion ($14.71 billion at NT$34:$1) this year."TFT-LCD displays will rank as the number one among the displays, and will account for 88.60 percent of the total, with NT$438.50 billion ($12.90 billion) in value," Wang said.In 2003, Taiwan's optical display production value was worth NT$337.40 billion ($9.92 billion). On the other hand, TFT-LCD displays reached NT$289.00 billion ($8.50 billion), accounting for 85.70 percent of the total value.Further, Wang predicts that the demand for LCD monitors for 2004 will reach 70.60 million units; for notebook computers, 41.50 million; for LCD TV receivers, 9.20 million units; and for other applications, 3.50 million units.
