IPC Book-to-Bill and Business Report for Nov 2002
Jan 02, 2003
Timothy Chen, the former top China executive of Motorola Inc., has resigned to take a senior position at Microsoft Corp, the companies have announced. At Microsoft, Chen will hold the newly created position of chief executive for the Greater China region, where he will be responsible for supervising all of the company's business lines. He will start Sept. 1.The move will leave Motorola, at least for the moment, without a full-time chief for its China operations, which include major manufacturing businesses that generated $5.7 billion of the company's $27.3 billion in 2002 sales.Motorola said it is still seeking a permanent replacement for Chen as president of Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd., but in the meantime has appointed Ruey Bin Kao as acting president. Kao is Greater China head of the Global Telecom Solutions Sector unit.Chen's other major role as chairman of Motorola China has been taken over by his former superior, Gene Delaney, the company said in a statement.Delaney will continue to be based at the corporate headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill., and will still serve as president of Motorola's Global Relations and Resources Organization.A Beijing-based spokeswoman said the new arrangement, which splits the role of chairman and president, will allow Motorola to focus better on its China operations, noting that Delaney reports directly to Chief Executive Christopher Galvin.Source: PCBnewsline
