Original Solutions announces first sale of inspection system
Dec 03, 2003
Original Solutions, an inspection solutions provider for the electronics manufacturing industry, has announced the first sale of its new PINtector press fit connector inspection system for printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). PINtector is said to be the first system to eliminate the use of mechanical means, such as pin gages, to inspect pin insertion depth. The system utilizes innovative laser technology and unique software intelligence to detect missing or bent pins by examining the vias from the opposite side of the PCB. "Even with computer-controlled servo-electric presses, you can never be sure that the press-fit pins are seated correctly." says Peter Conlon, VP Marketing & Sales for Original Solutions "One bent pin can mean your circuit doesn’t function properly. The PINtector gives you the confidence to know that your pins are seated correctly and are at the right depths." This radical new system is equipped with a user-friendly graphic interface that allows a technician to easily identify pin insertions that fall outside specification and to perform any necessary repair. Board panels with multiple high-density connectors are easily handled by the system using data from a standard Gerber file to orient itself with respect to the panel.PINtector moves at a rate of 5 inches per second and can easily scan pin depths of up to 100 mils. The system can accommodate board sizes of up to 20 inches x 20 inches. Source: PCBnewsline
