Spemco sell antenna and microwave business to managers

Oct 13, 2003

A management buyout of Spemco's Rochester antenna and microwave circuit facility has led to the formation of AMCS (Antenna and Microwave Circuit Services). The Spemco Group announced today that Managers of their Rochester plant had purchased the business for a substantial but undisclosed sum. The new company, whose directors are brothers Nick, Tim and Mark Howland, will take over the business with immediate effect. The new name for the company is 'Antenna & Microwave Circuit Services' or AMCS.The Rochester facility is a specialised manufacturing facility with equipment and skill to make circuits of up to 3 metres long in a number of PTFE and Microwave materials. The company grew with the telecom industry during the 1990s and has supplied antenna boards to most of the world's major mobile phone companies. All the staff manufacturing these circuits have been retained by the new management team. The Rochester plant is one of perhaps only three in Europe capable of such circuits.Nick Howland, Managing Director of AMCS, said he was delighted with the acquisition and looked forward to continuing the development of the company that had started so well under the ownership of The Spemco Group. He added "We have a quality business with specialist staff and equipment and a good client list. I am confident that we can continue to grow. Separate from The Spemco Group, we can focus all our attentions on this niche technology, making use of the latest developments in our field to produce microwave and antenna boards on long and exotic substrates."Steve Driver, Managing Director of The Spemco Group said "I am pleased to have sold the company to the management, although other offers were on the table, this was clearly the best result for the business, its staff and its customers. Nobody knows the business better than Nick and his team, they will do a good job of running the company and with positive signs in the marketplace I am sure they will do well". Steve went on to say that the sale would allow The Spemco Group to concentrate on their core competencies of manufacturing and importing boards of ever increasing technological demands, for their loyal and growing client base in UK and Europe.More information on The Spemco Group can be found at www.spemco.co.ukTo speak to Nick Howland or any of the team at AMCS call +44 1634 225000
