Kuehn was selected for his numerous contributions as both president and vice president of the Portland, Oregon Chapter. Additionally, Kuehn has been influential in helping numerous colleagues become leaders in their own way. His leadership style is business-like, low-key, and presented in a sharing and caring style. In addition to his exemplary leadership in the Oregon Chapter, Jim has been instrumental in forming a Chapter in Boise, ID and a Student Chapter in Corvallis, OR. His offer of support and help has also been extended to colleagues interested in forming a chapter in the Vancouver, BC area. Jim travels extensively and continuously checks to see if there is a Chapter event in the area he is visiting. Jim serves the SMTA nationally on the Membership Committee. He has spoken at various chapter officers meetings and encourages leaders from his area to participate beyond SMTA locally. Jim has been a familiar face at SMTA International every year. He has served as a session co-chair and offers his valuable time to promote SMTA in the booth, as well as in the Bookstore during the show. Jim is a loyal supporter of SMTA and personifies a "Perfect Volunteer." according to the Association.SMTA Administrator JoAnn Stromberg said of Kuehn, "Jim has the wonderful ability to excite and energize people. I know that this skill helped him and his chapter earn the ‘Chapter of the Year’ award in 2002. We are so appreciative of the help Jim has given in establishing our chapter in Boise and also the hours he has devoted to establishing one of the first student chapters in the country. At the national level we have appreciated Jim’s participation on the Membership Committee. His attendance at our Leadership Forum has been appreciated and the enthusiasm he passes on to other leaders from around the country is contagious. Jim has truly captured the meaning of our ‘Excellence in Leadership award."Kuehn’s acceptance was based on the making of a good leader and the importance of a leader having the right attitude to inspire others. Kuehn said, "Your attitude determines your altitude. It is a simple concept. If you have a negative attitude toward the issues at hand, you will feel like you can’t achieve what is set in front of you. The opposite is true to of a good/positive attitude with the desire to achieve the goals set before you. With this type of attitude, you ‘can soar with the eagles,’ thus your altitude is above and beyond the negative person."Source: PCBnewsline
