Asustek Computer is expected to outsource over 50% of its branded motherboard to outside OEMs by the end of 2008, while notebook outsourcing will be around 15%, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report citing predictions by market watchers.
Although Asustek and its ODM devision, Unihan Technology, have already separated, market watchers commented that Asustek's outsourcing ratio to Unihan is still very high, which indicates that the spin-off is still not complete, noted the paper.
However, Jerry Shen, president of Asustek, pointed out that the company will prioritize the outsourcing of non-notebook products first, added the paper.
