Jul 18, 2003
Forty-one percent of Intel’s record second-quarter revenues of US$6.8 billion, or US$2.8 billion, were generated from the Asia-Pacific region (excluding Japan), according to Intel president and CEO Craig Barrett. In the beginning of 2002, only 20% of Intel’s revenues came from Asia. By the end of that year, the region contributed 38%.The regional growth was due mainly to growth of the China market, which will be Intel’s most important market in the future, according to Intel.Kelly Wu, Intel country manager of Taiwan, said she believes the Asia market is still in a growth stage, with even greater potential in the future. In related news, Intel is seeing a pick-up in business IT spending, with strong sales of Centrino notebooks, according to Wu. The company now expects Centrino notebooks to become the mainstream performance notebook by the end of the third quarter instead of by the end of the fourth quarter as earlier expected.Of all notebooks sold, 35% will be Centrino notebooks by the end of the third quarter, according to Wu.Source: DigiTimes
