Quanta generates NT$751.2 B. in sales in 2007

Jan 10, 2008

Quanta Computer Inc. recently announced it scored NT$751.2 billion (US$23.11 billion at US$1:NT$32.5) in sales in 2007, up 63% year-on-year and standing firmly as Taiwan's second-largest electronics producer only behind Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. which is expected to post NT$1.2 trillion (US$36.92 billion) in non-combined sales.

Poised as the world's largest contract manufacturer of notebook computers, Quanta shipped 31.8 million units of NBs in 2007, up 66% from a year earlier. The company has set a goal to ship 36 million units of NBs in 2008.

Quanta scored NT$71.707 billion in combined sales in December 2007, up 82% year-on-year. The company shipped 3.1 million units of NBs in December 2007, up 55% from the year earlier.

Of Taiwan's top-five manufacturers of electronic products, only Hon Hai has opportunity to see monthly sales hit record high in December 2007. The firms, which might encounter over 20% sales slump from the preceding month, were Asustek Computer Inc. and Compal Electronics Corp.

Asustek registered consolidated sales of NT$726 billion (US$22.33 billion) in 2007, meeting its earlier projection. Because of a slight decline in shipments of NBs and motherboards, Asustek saw combined sales reach NT$60 billion (US$1.84 billion) in December 2007, down 20% from the preceding month. The company predicted combined sales of NT$203 billion (US$6.24 billion) in the fourth quarter of 2007.

Asustek shipped seven million units of NBs in 2007, including own-brand and contract-manufacturing models with the former accounting for 4.3 million units or 61%. After splitting own-brand from contract-manufacturing business, the company will make a sprint to boost sales of own-brand products in January 2008.

Chang We-ming, chief finance officer of Asustek, noted his company has set a goal to ship seven million units of own-brand NBs in 2008, up 63% from the previous year. For own-brand motherboards, the company sets a shipment goal of 24 million units, up 14% from the preceding year's 21 million units. In addition, the company targets to ship five million units of Eee PCs in 2008.

Asustek said it attained NT$220 billion (US$6.76 billion) in sales from own-brand products. An institutional investor predicted Asustek would be able to challenge NT$330 billion (US$10.15 billion) in sales of own-brand products this year because of the continued growth in sales of such core products as NBs and motherboards.
