PCB makers prep expansion for HDI boards
Dec 31, 2007
Demand from high-end handsets and notebooks is driving printed circuit board (PCB) makers to expand corresponding high-density interconnect (HDI) PCB production. Despite that most major Taiwan PCB makers are preparing for expansion, industry watchers remarked that market equilibrium will not be disturbed due to the expansion pace of the makers.
Overall demand of HDI PCB in 3+n+3 stack-in structure is expected to grow by 10-15% on year in 2008, according to investor estimates. Demand for HDI PCBs in layer structures more than 2+n+2 is expected to grow from 70% to 80% in the same period, they added. Besides demand from high-end handsets, the investors identified notebooks, digital music players and GPS as demand drivers.
