First-tier motherboard makers release June financial results

The combined revenues of first-tier motherboard makers Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI), Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) and Gigabyte Technology rose 11.2% in June from the previous month, according to company announcements.Asustek set a three-year high on revenues of NT$12.94 billion, up 9.4% from May, and shipped 2.1 million motherboards, a historical high. It also shipped 86,000 notebooks, 440,000 graphics cards and 460,000 optical storage drives.Sixty-one percent of the Taiwan-based company’s June revenues, or NT$7.9 billion, came from overseas sources, also a historical high according to Asustek.ECS saw a 21% jump in revenues from May to NT$5.65 billion, mainly due to fulfillment of notebook orders from Apple Computer. However, the company has since exited that business, with the sale of its Chungli, Taoyuan (Taiwan) factory to Asustek taking effect on June 30.ECS’s motherboard shipments fell from 1.39 million units in May to 1.34 million units in June, and its non-motherboard revenues increased by 65%, according to the company. This estimate included a strong increase in revenues from Apple notebook orders.MSI had revenues of NT$4.59 billion, a 6% gain from May, on motherboard shipments of 1.10 million to 1.15 million units. MSI pointed out that its inventory level has decreased 22% since the first quarter, from NT$7.68 billion to NT$6 billion.Gigabyte shipped 1.05 million to 1.10 million motherboards in June for revenues of NT$2.61 billion, up 11.8% from May.Source: DigiTimes
