iNEMI begins work on 2009 Roadmap at fall conferences
Oct 10, 2007
European kick-off scheduled for November at Productronica
The International Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (iNEMI), an industry-led consortium focused on identifying and closing technology gaps, is gearing up for the 2009 Roadmap with a series of meetings being held at industry conferences this fall.
Preliminary work began on the product sector spreadsheets at an all-day meeting held at IPC Midwest September 25. At this meeting, Product Emulator Group (PEG) chairs met with Technology Working Group (TWG) chairs to begin updating the key attribute spreadsheets that define - from the OEM perspective - product technology and business-related needs for six product sectors. These spreadsheets are used by the 19 TWGs in developing details about where their respective technology stands today, and where it is expected to progress over the next 10 years, with respect to stated product sector needs.
The PEG kick-off is scheduled for next week, October 12, at the SMTA International conference in Orlando, Fla. At this meeting, PEG chairs will meet with the iNEMI Technical Committee and TWG chairs to identify key changes from the 2007 PEG Chapters.
The European kick-off for the roadmap will be held November 14 at Productronica (Munich, Germany). Co-sponsored by the IEEE CPMT Society, Fraunhofer IZM and IMAPS Europe, this meeting will introduce the new product sector plans for the 2009 Roadmap, review key technology chapters from the 2007 Roadmap, and provide information about the roadmap process for this cycle for those people who are interested in participating.
"We had greater participation from European companies in our last roadmap than in any previous roadmap, and we hope to expand involvement even further during this next cycle," said Chuck Richardson, director of roadmapping for iNEMI. "As we make the roadmap increasingly more global, it's important that we get input from around the globe in order to ensure that regional issues are addressed. This meeting is a good opportunity for individuals to learn more about the roadmap and identify how they may want to become involved."
