Palm is outsourcing the production of its new smartphone, the Palm Centro, to Taiwan-based Inventec Appliances with volume shipments to begin soon, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.
While outsourcing the Centro, which supports the CDMA2000 1x EV-DO standard, to Inventec on an OEM basis, Palm has also subcontracted new CDMA2000 smartphones to be launched in 2008 to Chi Mei Communication Systems (CMCS) on an ODM basis, said the paper, noting that Palm previously outsourced the production of its Treo 700w and Treo 755p to High Tech Computer (HTC).
