LaBarge, Inc. has announced that GE Aircraft Engines awarded the company a $2.5 million contract to manufacture high-temperature cables for GE's F414 jet engine, which powers the U.S. Navy's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Strike fighter. The F414 engine is one of the most advanced fighter jet engines in the Navy's fleet."LaBarge has designed and produced jet engine cables to GE's rigorous requirements for nearly a decade," said Randy Buschling, chief operating officer of LaBarge. "We are proud to help create one of the most durable, reliable and technically advanced jet engines used by our military."Designed by LaBarge engineers, the ruggedized cables provide critical signals for all F414 engine functions. The cables transfer command signals as well as performance data between sensors located throughout the F414 and the engine's Full Authority Digital Electronic Control, which monitors such data as compressor temperature, fan speed and aircraft-to-engine interface.Production will take place at LaBarge's Joplin, USA operation, and is expected to begin in July and continue through to December 2004.Source: PCBnewsline
