Personal computer shipments grew about 12 percent during the second quarter of this year from the same period in 2006, with Hewlett-Packard Co claiming the largest global market share, two market researchers reported on Wednesday.
Gartner Inc and IDC placed Dell Inc in the No. 2 slot, then Lenovo Group Ltd, Acer Inc and Toshiba Corp followed behind, ranked in that order, the research firms said.
Gartner estimated that some 61 million machines were shipped during the quarter, while IDC placed the number at about 59 million.
In the United States, Dell beat out Hewlett Packard for the largest market share, according to both research firms.
