Jun 12, 2007
Samsung Electronics will build a TV plant in Russia to cope with fast-growing demand for digital televisions in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) region.
The Korean vendor plans to build a 59,000 pyung (about 47.3 hectare) plant in the Vorsino industrial park, Kaluga, 85 kilometres (50 miles) sourthwest of Moscow by investing $5.7 million. It aims to commence the construction from July 2007 and complete it by October 2008. The Vorsino factory is scheduled to produce up to 2.2 million sets annually by 2010.
Samsung currently has television production facilities in eight countries - Brazil, China, Hungary, Indonesia, Mexico, South Korea, Slovakia and Thailand - in an effort to respond quickly to the dramatic upward trend in local demand for digital TVs.
