Compal plans notebooks and LCD TV plants in Vietnam

Compal Electronics is planning to set up plant(s) in Vietnam to manufacture notebooks initially and then to expand the production lines to include LCD TVs later on, company chairman Rock Hsu said at a shareholders meeting held last week.

With expanded production capacity, Compal aims to replace Quanta Computer as the world's largest OEM notebook maker within two years, stated Hsu, noting that Compal's notebook shipments are expected to grow 38% on year to reach 20 million units in 2007.
