Asahi Glass decides to build new glass substrate plant in Tainan

Japan-based Asahi Glass Co. Ltd. has decided to construct a new fifth-generation glass substrate fabrication line at the Tainan Technology Industrial Park, Taiwan, and to move the grinding and cutting line from Kaohsjung to Tainan.

This decision seems to derive from the Government's environmental evaluation team's report that Kaohsiung is the most inappropriate place for development. Asahi Glass has already owned three fabrication lines at the Yunlin technology industrial park. On the other hand, because the new line schedule to come on stream from the end of the year is located only 4-kilometer far from the conventional line dedicated to the cutting and grinding process, the company explained that it would continue to maintain its product supply and services for the conventional customers such as Chi Mei Optoelectronics Corp. (CMO).
