Compal Electronics on March 1 reported that it posted after-tax profits of NT$8.75 billion (US$266 million) in 2006, up just 4% from a year earlier amid strong pricing competition among Taiwan OEM notebook makers. The net profits translate into a net EPS (earnings per share) of NT$2.35 for 2006, down from the NT$2.43 in 2005. Although the company saw its gross margins edge up 8% on year to NT$14.4 billion in 2006, its gross margin rate actually declined to 4.8%, from the 6.0% it recorded in 2005, the company said. The company expects its notebook shipments to climb 38% on year to 20 million units in 2007, according to company sources. source: DigiTimes
