Compal Communications lands Motorola W-series handset orders

While Motorola was displaying its four new W-series GSM handsets during the CTIA Wireless Convention, industry sources indicated that it is Compal Communications that will be doing the related OEM manufacturing.

The new W-series handsets include the W218, W360, W380 and W395. Delivery from Compal to Motorola is expected to begin from the second quarter of 2007, the sources indicated. Among the listed models, the W218 and W360 are candy bar design, while the W380 and W395 are clam shell models. The W218 will first hit the market in the second quarter and the remainder will follow in the third quarter.
