Second-tier mobo makers: May performance varied

Second-tier motherboard makers posted varied revenue performance in May, with Chaintech Computer and Jetway Information reporting month-on-month revenue growth boosted by their graphics card businesses.Chaintech estimated that its May revenues would reach NT$349 million, growing by a slight 3.9% from April. For May, the company said that its graphics card revenues grew to 55% of total revenues, up from 50% in April.Jetway enjoyed greater revenue growth, thanks to a jump in graphics card shipments from 13,000 units in April to 52,000 in May. Its motherboard shipments rose slightly, from 72,000 units in April to 77,000 units in May.Abit Computer’s sales grew 12.4% to NT$783 million in May. Shuttle saw May revenues rise slightly from April, although it managed to ship only 38,000 mini-barebone systems, short of its previously expected level of 40,000-45,000 units. Shuttle shipped around 145,000 motherboards in May.The May sales performance of other second-tier manufacturers appeared relatively weak, with Diamond Flower Electric Instrument (DFI) reporting the largest revenue decline.Source: DigiTimes
