According to company general manager Gene Renn, maximum production capacity may reach an equivalent of 1.2 million network interface cards (NICs) per month. The new plant has five SMT lines and handles production of low-end switches and NICs, according to Renn. The company plans to add one more SMT line and close its original Dongguan plant.Output from its new plant accounts for 70% of the company’s total output, contributing about 50% of revenue.Currently, Edimax’s plant in Wuku, Taipei County (Taiwan) focuses on production of high-end networking equipment, such as wireless routers and wireless switches.Edimax is also evaluating plans to set up a second production center in China, possibly in Eastern China, but no schedule has been decided, Renn added.Source: DigiTimes
