Technology literacy to be developed

by
Dec 11, 2002

Girls are untapped source of high-tech talent The Technology Student Association, a non-profit technology education association with 160,000 student members nationwide, has announced that it will be supporting the 'Go Girl Act', an effort to recognize that girls are an undiscovered pool of technology talent. The legislation, which will be reintroduced in the 108th Congress next year is intended to improve educational opportunities for girls by reducing gender bias in education and career opportunities. Approximately 50 percent of TSA’s membership is female. When it comes to today’s technology culture, TSA views girls as an untapped source of talent to lead the high-tech economy. This was reiterated by Representative Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), one of 17 Congressional leaders supporting the 'Go Girl Act', who noted that, "Females make up slightly more than 50 percent of the country’s population, but less than 30 percent of America’s scientists are women."Source: PCBnewsline
