Solectron Corporation (NYSE:SLR) announced the formation of the Solectron Medical Alliance Program (S-MAP). Anchored by Solectron, S-MAP initially includes ATEK Medical, Circle Medical, Proven Process Medical Devices, Inc., and SRI Product Development. The alliance creates a comprehensive medical device outsourcing ecosystem encompassing product design and engineering, manufacturing, assembly and aftermarket services and support.

"Medical device firms are facing mounting pressure to generate more revenue with more products at lower costs while meeting high quality requirements. The Solectron Medical Alliance Program is a powerful new approach to solving many of these business challenges," said Dave Busch, vice president, medical segment, Solectron. "S-MAP offers a single point of contact to a best-in-class global team supporting complete product life cycle needs for medical device firms."

S-MAP creates one of the largest teams of medical technology and clinical manufacturing experts available in the contract manufacturing industry. In addition, Solectron offers a global footprint with locations near strategic end-markets and cost-effective, high-quality suppliers in Asia. The three product design firms joining the alliance - Circle Medical, Proven Process and SRIpd - give S-MAP a geographic reach within one time zone of every U.S.-based OEM and augments Solectron's global medical capabilities. Solectron also has renowned expertise in complete medical box-build capabilities and complex systems integration.

"ATEK Medical and Solectron share a strong vision of providing a complete solution to medical OEMs," said Chris Oleksy, president, ATEK Medical. "S-MAP is a reflection of our mission to provide world-class medical manufacturing services."

"This Solectron Medical Alliance Program provides our clients with the opportunity to move with confidence from our low-volume production to Solectron's extremely cost effective offshore medical device manufacturing facilities," said Jerry Hansen, CEO, Circle Medical.

"Solectron's Lean Six Sigma manufacturing expertise and Proven Process' creative state-of-the-art R&D capabilities - combined with the exceptional capabilities of other alliance members - provides OEMs with an unprecedented array of product design, manufacturing, fulfillment and aftermarket services," said Kenneth Fine, president, Proven Process.

"S-MAP is a major leap forward for medical device firms in providing a complete end-to-end outsourcing solution, and SRI Product Development is proud to be a member," said Jeffrey Rogers, president, SRI Product Development. "The powerful combination of our engineering talent with the unique skills and capabilities of the alliance partners will enable us to provide high-quality services to medical OEMs."
