B2B Compliance applies for approval
Jan 05, 2007
On the 3rd January 2007, B2B Compliance, the UK's largest WEEE Producer Compliance Scheme, became the first Producer-led scheme to submit its application for approval to the Environment Agency. Geoff Young, Director of B2B Compliance and Chief Executive of one of the ten supporting trade associations, praised the B2B Compliance team for working to ensure an early application "Our Operational Plan and Constitution have been in place for over two years and needed little adjustment to ensure that our submission conformed to the final regulations". A spokesperson from the Environment Agency responded by saying "We are delighted that B2B Compliance had responded so early and we appeal to other compliance schemes to apply for approval as soon as possible - this will enable us to process the applications in a timely manner and avoid a last minute rush". While the implementation date for the regulations is not until 1st July 2007 the WEEE Regulations will require all UK producers to join an approved Producer Compliance Scheme by 15 March 2007. While Geoff Young felt that timescales were very tight and many companies may be leaving their decision to prepare for WEEE very late he was confident that B2B Compliance is well positioned to support Producers". The B2B Compliance website (www.b2bcompliance.org.uk) provides a full membership listing and details of how to join the Scheme.
