TFI releases EM pricing comparison study
May 14, 2003
Summary of Global Pricing Model to be presented at TFI’s June 9, 2003 Quarterly ForumTechnology Forecasters, Inc. has announced it will shortly release the first comprehensive study comparing electronics-manufacturing pricing in dozens of countries around the world. TFI Senior Consultant Charlie Barnhart is directing the Global Pricing Model. During his career, Barnhart observed a significant gap between OEMs' "common beliefs" about international manufacturing pricing and the actual costs experienced by contract manufacturers. Industry expert TFI is said to have verified comparative country-by-country cost data by interviewing executives responsible for pricing at six if the top ten contract manufacturers - all whom operate multinational manufacturing sites. These third-party interviews, which gave anonymity to the respondents, served to validate the model. TFI believes the Global Pricing Model’s report and half-day workshop not only summarize these costs but also provide an analysis and methodology that will help OEM managers make more accurate outsourcing decisions, especially when evaluating international options for procurement, manufacturing, engineering resources, logistics, and after-market services.Source: PCBnewsline
