Nov 22, 2006
LG.Philips LCD has won a patent infringement suit against a Taiwanese company and will be awarded 53.5 million dollars, Bloomberg reports. According to the report, the Los Angeles federal court ruled that Chunghwa Picture Tubes Ltd. (CPT), the No. 3 LCD player in Taiwan, and its parent company, Tatung Co., have infringed LG.Philips LCD's patents for semiconductor technology used in LCD manufacture, and should indemnify 53.5 million dollars for damage. In 2002, LG.Philips LCD has initially filed a patent suit against the Taiwan-based CPT, alleging patent infringement causing damage worth of more than 80 million dollars.
