LG has become the first Korean company to build a digital electronics production plant dedicated to rolling out PDP and LCD TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, and stereo systems, in Russia. The Korean electronics giant commenced construction of the new facility in April last year, which is capable of producing 500,000 units of PDP and LCD TVs, 700,000 units of washing machines, 200,000 units of refrigerators, 260,000 units of stereo systems, and these capacities are scheduled to increase each by 1 million units per year or 4 million units for four years. On the other hand, the new facility, where a total of seven component suppliers including Starion Co. Ltd. and Sunglim jointly invested $150 million with LG Electronics, is evaluated as a model of overseas production base jointly built up by large-size companies and small to medium sized suppliers.
