Compal notebook shipments said to top one million in June
Jul 06, 2006
Compal Electronics is estimated to have shipped more than one million notebooks in June, beating the record of 980,000 units that it shipped in March, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times. Compal's shipments may total 2.8 million notebooks in the second quarter, up from 2.66 million units the previous quarter, the paper indicated. However, Compal is expected to experience a drop of US$10 in notebook average selling prices (ASPs) sequentially in the second quarter, the paper noted. The slide in ASP is expected to cause Compal's second quarter revenues rise only 2-3% on quarter, the paper said. In addition, the Commercial Times cited company sources as indicating that Compal may downgrade its shipment goal for this year, but such a decision will be made in early August at the earliest. Compal projects it will ship 15 million notebooks in 2006, but the company shipped only 5.5 million units in the first half, according to the paper. source: DigiTimes
