Christopher Associates announces new AOI System for Ultra Fine Line Technology
May 19, 2006
As part of it's commitment to more effective solutions in yield improvement, Christopher Associates Inc. has introduced the PI-8700 automatic optical inspection system for ultra fine line geometries. It is believed to be the most advanced printed circuit AOI system in the world. The Dainippon Screen (Kyoto, Japan) PI 8700 automatic optical inspection system was developed originally for the packaging substrate industry, where the requirements are for inspection of geometries to 12.5 micron (0.5 mil) lines and spaces. This requires highly advanced inspection algorithms, optics, and imaging processing with data transfer speeds critical to productivity. For productivity purposes, The PI-8700 offers adjustable settings for line width geometries from 12.5 - 50 microns that enable the system to meet virtually any throughput requirement with very low false alarm rates and superior defect capture capability. The PI-8700 can inspect any pcb geometry, and will inspect power/ground, analog, signal, mixed, high frequency and outer layers with no impact on throughput or inspection quality. Job set usually takes less than 10 minutes, and the PI-8700 has a MTBF rated in the thousands of hours. With a Windows XP user interface, the PI 8700 is easy to use and can verify on line while inspecting. Flip mode inspection is included to help facilitate small lot and first article inspection. The PI 8700 is also designed to accommodate third party automation equipment to facilitate use in volume production applications. www.christopherweb.com
