Chi Mei to actively push own-brand LCD TVs
May 19, 2006
Chi Mei Group has begun actively promoting its own CHI MEI brand of LCD TV products in Taiwan and plans to tap the huge mainland China market in the second half of this year. Chi Mei's own-brand marketing activities are part of the group's next-stage integration project, which aims to produce all the group's products with CHI MEI brand logos. Chi Mei's LCD TV products are globally marketed by group subsidiary Nexgen Mediatech Inc., which is also responsible for LCD TV design and development, as well as contract manufacturing. Nexgen shipped approximately 150,000 LCD TVs in the first quarter, with about 30% produced on an own-brand basis. In the initial stage, Chi Mei is aiming its own-brand LCD TVs focus at the domestic market, but Nexgen has already started developing European sales of the brand, with operations in Europe beginning in the fourth quarter of 2005. Nexgen aims to ship more than 600,000 LCD TVs this year, compared with 300,000 units in last year. The company claimed that it targets shipping about 200,000 CHI MEI-brand LCD TVs this year, with the rest produced on an OEM basis. source & copyright: CENS
