BOE HYDIS enters into patent license agreement with Sanyo Epson
Mar 15, 2006
High-end TFT-LCD maker BOE HYDIS TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD has announced that it has entered into a license agreement with Sanyo Epson Imaging Devices Corporation, a Japan-based global mobile LCD leader, on TFT-LCD technologies including BOE HYDIS' wide viewing angle AFFS(Advanced Fringe Field Switching) technology. According to the agreement, BOE HYDIS will provide information on its signature AFFS technology to Sanyo Epson - including product technologies and know-how for manufacturing AFFS-applied products. Sanyo Epson will combine AFFS with its own mobile technologies to develop new wide viewing angle technology for the next generation of high-resolution small and medium-sized LCDs. However, specific terms and conditions are not available due to the confidentiality clause in the agreement. Following the company's agreement with Hitachi Displays in 2004, this marks the second time BOE HYDIS has granted its patent license on its own AFFS technology to a Japanese company. As a result of this agreement, BOE HYDIS is expected to gain even wider recognition of its AFFS technology from the international LCD industry, and attain a leadership position in global competition over LCD technology standards. President Haesung Park of BOE HYDIS explained, "The agreement with Sanyo Epson, the global leader in the small to medium-sized LCD sector, is expected to accelerate the high-end mobile display business of the company. In addition, it strongly supports the fact that AFFS technology is the most optimal technology for mobility LCD products."
